I have an Equallogic PS6000x that is no longer under warranty. We are using it for less critical data. One of the 16 600GB SAS drives is bad. Rather than buying a new Drive I wanted to drop the array down to 12 drives on a raid 6 and keep the other 3 as cold spares for future drive failures.
Will the Equallogic allow me to make an array with 12 instead of 16 drives? I reset the Equallogic back to factory and pulled the bottom 4 drives. I Get an error when I try to build the array with 12 drives. I plug the other 4 drives back in (including the bad drive) and it allows me to build the array.
