We replicated all of our data to a new data center and then we promoted the volumes to temporary status. Now that we have been working on them for a week, we want to promote them to permanent. We have a PS4210 w/ firmware 8.0.5. We have 15TB w/ 7TB used 6+TB delegated, & 500GB free. It's running VMware ESX 6.0. Here are my questions:
1. Do we need to shutdown the ESX server or just the VMs on the volumes we're promoting, or can we promote them live while everything is running?
2. Since we have to rename the volume, does it make a clone? If it clones it, does it use the delegated space, or do I need to get more free space?
3. Will it automatically free the delegated space, or do we need to do some cleanup?
4. Is there any documentation on promoting to permanent? I couldn't find any.
5. Any estimate of how long it takes to promote 2TB volume?
6. Can I delete all of the delegated space to create 1 large volume, then move VMs to it?
