Dear friends..
I m bit new to this area of storage migration..
Customer having present architecture.
iSCSI Storage Array:
2X Equallogic Storage Model: 70-0120 PS4000 (One at DR Site for Replication)
1X Equallogic Storage Model: 70-0400 PS6100
Production site : PS4100 & PS6100 are members of one group and having one default storage pool & the volume spreading across members.
DR site : One PS 4100 having replication partner with Production site. Production volume are replicating with DR PS.
Environments:
Vmware 5.0, Red Hat Linux on Physical Hosts, Windows 2008, Exchange 2010, Oracle E-Bus. Suite.
Host : Dell M610 Blade server*10 ( 5 Blades are part of vmware cluster & rest blade are physical host running windows and linux , which are running the Oracle & SAP Application.
Requirement : Customer need to add higher capacity and newer generation equal logic and willing to discard the earlier PS form production site. Discarded PS will be shift to DR site and will be added as a member of existing PS group at DR.
1) What is the best way to achieve this and migrate the existing lun to New PS. .
a) Migrate the volume i.e.( add the PS to existing Groupd and select the LUN and migrate to new member).
Note : Do i need the same FW level for all members in this if i add the new member with higher version of firmware ?
b) or replicate the volume ( Add the PS & replicate volume to the New volume created at new PS).
if i go with (a) option what will be the implication at Host level ? since after migration i will discard the existing old PS ( 2 members).
c) Since i am running Linux Host ,,,what will be the issue at Lun visibility level to OS.
I need advise and help in this regards.
regards
Manoj
