Question about Networking

I realized after I was given charge of an older ps4110 that is now apart of a mixed group that the default gateway is wrong. Can I change this without it affecting any of my 500 users whose vm's reside on the group? The purpose is so that I can integrate it with active directory and by both (my group and AD) being on different subnets the default gateway is critical.


Equallogic volume distribution RAID 6 - RAID 50

Hello hope you can help.

I have two Dell Equallogic SANs one running RAID 50 one running RAID 6. All the volumes were initially on the RAID 50 SAN.

I changed the RAID preference on a volume to RAID 6 and over the course of a day it moved over to the SAN running RAID 6. 

My question is it still says in process even though it has moved it all over. 

Am i missing something?

Have a PS6110 with a Type 14 controller and 2TB drives and a PS6210 with a Type 15 controller and 600GB drives.

Could I replace the 600GB drives in the PS6210 with the 2TB drives from the PS6110 and get rid of the PS6110?

SyncRep snapshot reserve

We upgraded our Equallogic array from firmware 7.1.9 to 8.1.1. After this upgrade we had a lot of volumes telling us the snapshot reserve for synrep was above warning level and that we need to increase the snapshot reserve. Some volumes are very small and i need to increase the snapshot reserve to 100% to correct the warning. Is this normal behaviour, or is this corrected by disabling and enabling the syncrep? Does anyone know if there are best practices about snapshot reserve size for syncrep volumes? Thanks in advance....

SAN HQ Critical Alert - impossible to get logs from PS4100X

Hello.

I have a Dell Equallogic SAN PS4100X v7.0.10 and a SAN HQ server in release 3.0.2.7457.

Yesterday I receive an email which talking about error 14.2

Caution conditions:

  • 7/28/2016 5:17:09 PM
    • [ID: 14.2] Unable to establish connection.
    • The SAN HQ server issued SNMP requests at the group, some or all of which failed.  This condition is likely due to network congestion or failed network connectivity.  The server will retry within 60 seconds.  Check your network connectivity and check that the storage group is online.  If the problem persists, contact your Dell support provider for assistance.

If I run SAN HQ Client I can observe a 14.1 Critical Alert: Unexpected Exception in Service. SAN HQ seems to be connected but there is no logs.

I try to upgrade to 3.2.0.8291 but this is the same issue. Nothing change on our side, and I test a snmpwalk with same community, it's working.

Have you ideas ?

Auto-delete old snapshots

We have Veeam doing vm backups, which generates volume snapshots on our SAN. The issue is, even though "delete oldest snapshot" is checked on the volume's snapshot policy, and "borrow space as needed" is unchecked, eventually the snapshot space fills up and the volume is taken offline. 

Does anyone know a solution to this? I'd think "delete oldest snapshot" would solve this issue, but it doesn't.

SAN HQ incorrectly reporting usage errors

We recently had a round of proactive maintenance which upgraded our PS6200 SANs to Firmware V8.1.1 and our SAN HQ to version 3.1.0.7890.

SAN HQ is now throwing error 4.2 (at caution, warning and critical) saying all of the Volumes in the Groups are running at high in-use space levels (varies between 88% and 98% depending on the Volume). Running the Group Manager tool shows that these Volumes are in fact not running at these levels and are well below any usage threshold that would trigger an alert.

I've tried re-installing SAN HQ and re-registering the Groups in it, with no luck. I also tried increasing Volume sizes, which also has no effect. All the Volumes are Thin Provisioned.

Any information or help is gratefully received.


Replication failure troubleshooting

We have a PS4100 running v6.0.11 that replicates three volumes over a VPN WAN tunnel to a PS4000 running the same version of firmware. Normally, replication is rock solid, but all replication jobs stalled permanently a couple of days ago. Console error msg: "replTunnel.cc:1642:ERROR:7.4.78; Partner APPLE: iSCSI: login timed out. Make sure the partner IP address is correct and reachable."

Sad to say, we do not have an up-to-date service contract on either; so I'm seeking help triaging this issue. The VPN tunnel has been restarted and is up; I've successfully pinged 64-byte packets across it. I know that the first test is to successfully pint every destination interface address from every source interface address. Pls remind me of the CLI syntax to do so.

My only clue is that the running replication job seems to have stalled about the time that I did a controller restart on the source SAN to swap out the cache battery. Is it possible that the jumbo frames setting has to be set on both controllers?

Anyway...guidance would be appreciated; I really have to get this replication rolling again! Thanks!

Someone care to share their Linux multipath.conf file?

We are putting our first physical Redhat (rhel 6.8) on a compellent. sc8000/scos 6.7.5.


I am using the multipath parameters that is advised in a Dell TID which is pretty much the defaults it says after rhel 5.4.

However when testing doing some SCP copies and pulling a fiber, my scp will stall for about a minute. During that time a multipath -l still shows 4 active paths. After a minute it will show 2 and my scp will resume. I have to believe I need another option to in order to getting data traffic from stalling out like that. It seems odd because the defailt is round-robin so not sure why it times out for a minute.

And to be clear this is pulling a 1 of 2 fibers from the phsyical redhat host to test a failure. Everything is zoned correctly too, ie my physical HBA zone to the virtual ports on the Compellent.

Hello!

I have one vulneravility detected from McAfee Manager Report on my iDrac 7 / 8. About "TCP/IP Ping of Death Remote Denial of Service".

Report: A flaw is present in the handling of ICMP echo request, which fails to process ICMP packets
that exceed the maximum legal length (65535 octets). Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to crash the system.

Question: How to mitigate this vulnerability?

I have been considering replacing my hard drive in my Inspiron 7537 with the Samsung SSD MZ-7KE1T0BW. Anyone have thoughts on any compatibility issues that I might run into.

Smart Tags

I'm running firmware 8.1.3 and when I try to manage smart tags in the GUI, the options are greyed out to create new ones. When I try to assign an existing predefined tag to a volume, it shows me Applications only but no other settings. 

How do I enable smart tag options on volumes?

I have 5 PS6210 in a group.

Have updated 4 of them to 8.1.4 firmware from 7.0.10

5th one won't update. have reset, have run setup

I can set it up through CLI with IP and member name.

Says array firmware is incompatable with group

FTP'd to equallogic and copied tgz file to it.

run update from cli says %error object does not exist

Hi there,

I've enabled ISOE on partition 0 in our FC630, broadcom/qlogic 10GbE card. After configured everything on MS iscsi initator then I've seen all the paths were active for a while (10-20min) then one of the paths is just disappeared and never reconnected.

I can see "logout request was received from the initiator" message on the EQL log but that is not very helpful. Interestingly enough, this was just happened to the LUN; I've seen no issue for vss-control. So I was checking out the option and I've noticed that if I change the MPIO from "least queue depth" to "fail over only" then I dont see any path disappearance.

As I'm not quite sure why the default option "least queue depth" is not working, I'd appreciate for any insight and details.

Issue creating SmartCopy

Hello,

I'm trying to create a smart copy of a VM on a Hyper-V cluster and am running into a problem. When I create, the SmartCopy, I get the following:

An error occurred:

An error occurred during phase: Creating Smart Copy

Exception from HRESULT: 0x80042306.

An error occurred:

Writer 'Microsoft Hyper-V VSS Writer' reported an error: 'VSS_WS_FAILED_AT_THAW'. Check the application component to verify it is in a valid state for the operation.

An error occurred:

Smart Copy creation failed.

Error: Expected shadow copy provider error. The provider logged the error in the event log.

Could not log in to snapshot, it may be offline.

The application event log on the Host has the error:

iSCSI login error 0xEFFF0029 to target 0-fe83b6-06211e5e2-53e49c21ab857b5e, the snapshot may be offline.

And the Hyper-V VMMS Admin Log has an error:

VSS writers inside virtual machine 'LYPF-ARCHIVE3' failed to perform BackupComplete corresponding to shadow copy (VSS snapshot) set with id '7D9C5553-83E2-47BF-82E7-D46E44936D81': Unspecified error (0x80004005). (Virtual machine ID B6943C2F-8E46-49D6-A338-AA825A1C5391)

But there is no information that I've found on the VM other than an information log saying:

Ran out of time while deleting files. 

The Group itself has no log other than a message saying the snapshot was successfully deleted at the same time that the host throws the error about the snapshot being offline. Any ideas? I've tried everything I've been able to find on any forums and am stuck.

PS5000E hard disk firmware update?

Hi,

I'm trying to update hard disk firmware on a PS5000E but the following message is given.
 

 
Is there another way to update the firmware?
Inside the tar.gz file I see a file
kit_V7.0_DriveFw_1925749062\dfu\fwdsc\ST31000524NS.dsc
That contains a pointer to the firmware kit_V7.0_DriveFw_1925749062\dfu\fwbin\KD0A.lod
So can I do a "support exec sh" and then run an application to insert the KD0A.lod firmware into a specific drive?
It should update disk8 only (currently ST31000524NS - KD03)
I'm running group firmware V7.1.4 (R405872)
