Adding PS6110 v9.0.2 to a group with a sole member running 8.1.3

I have an existing PS6210 in production running PS Firmware 8.1.3. It is the sole member of the group, eqlgroup. We were able to acquire a PS6100, I spun it up and made it a member of its own group, eqltestgroup.

The PS6110 is running PS Firmware 8.1.4 and I want to update it to 9.0.2 before adding it to the production group, eqlgroup (to save myself the task of updating the thing with production data on it).

Can I upgrade PS6110's firmware to 9.0.2 and then add it to the production group? Will eqlgroup accept the PS6110 after the update? Or do I have to update the PS6210 to 8.1.4 (if I don't update the PS6110) or 9.0.2 (if I update the PS6110 to 9.0.2)?

Honestly, I really want to test this myself but I don't want to do these kind of things on production stuff. Your advice is greatly appreciated,


Which types of SSD will be compatible with my XPS8700?

I have an XPS8700 desktop with 16GB RAM and Windows 8.1 bought in May 2015. My hard drive has become corrupted and it won't boot. My recovery plan is to buy an SSD, say 256GB, and fit it as the primary drive, and install Windows 8.1 on it, then run some data recovery software so that I can recover whatever is recoverable from my hard drive, then reformat the hard drive and use it as expanded storage for documents etc. Hopefully I then end up with a fully working system and better performance than I had before. My question is, what type of SSD will be compatible with this PC? It has a socket marked MSATA1 as well as several SATA sockets. I understand that his is not the same as M.2, and is not the same as PCIe.

Not handling more than two MPIO connections

Is there a command to enable the HIT Kit to allow more than two MPIO connections?

I have a Windows Server with four dedicated iSCSI NICs, and the MPIO software from the HIT kit is not able to sustain more than two MPIO connections.

I can introduce a third and fourth session, but the MPIO software drops these connections after less than a minute.

Here's my configuration:

- Dell EqualLogic PS6500X (one member)
- Windows Server 2012 R2 iSCSI initiator
- HIT Kit version 4.7.

Equallogic PS4100 firmware downgrade 9.0.2 to 8.1.4 help!!!

Hi

I am trying to downgrade the firmware on a PS4100 from version 9.0.2 to 8.1.4 so that I can use MPIO drivers 1.2 with VMware vshere 5.1.

I have tried the override switch command via SSH and it fails with "-override-downgrade: not found"

Currently waiting for my techdirect account to be setup but this seems to take forever

Any help would be great.

Merging two existing groups

Hello,

We would like to migrate volumes from a PS6100 R50 1Gb to a PS6210 R6 10Gb both currently have existing volumes. Is it possible for two existing groups to join, migrate volumes from PS6100 to PS6210 and continue to using the PS6100 volume group.

Hi,

We have an very old EqualLogic PS4100, with a red light on on a remote site (connected to an production server and working fine)

Admin already left and we dont have its management IP or credentials.

I have someone onsite who can provide remote hands.

Can I connect a laptop and get in or does dell provides some paid support for this?

New 7.0.1 firmware - which file to install?

Hi, we are planning on upgrading to the latest 7.0.1 firmware and I noticed there are two files. One has 64 at the beginning. Wondering what file I should use and the differences between the two. I couldn't really find any documentation.

PS6100 on ESX 5.5

I currently have an Enterprise license installed on my ESX 5.5 host along with the Equallogic multi-pathing extension.  I've migrated the VMs off this host and will only be using this host and Equallogic datastore to replicate to for DR purposes.  I'd like to downgrade the license on the host from Enterprise to Standard but this does not support 3rd party multi-pathing extensions.  What are the implications of doing the downgrade on a running system?  Will it just disable the Equallogic extension?

Promoting and Restoring Replicated Volumes

I currently replicate all my volumes to offsite equallogic and I trying to know the best way to promote those volumes and then replicate them back with the least amount of data.  Is there a way to do it so it only replicates back the changes in the volume back to the original equallogic?  What's the best practice for this?

i uninstalled the software and removed all data and reinstalled and reconfigured , same thing

i installed the software on multiple other servers and freshly installed ones same results

ports are not blocked

Hi we have been currently running these switches for almost 3 years but one of them went offline and we have had to buy a replacement.

They have been performing well up to now, but one of  them has now developed a fault and we have had to order a replacement.

The firmware on them is out of date and I would like to know what version of junos dell recommends for these switches.

Dell Equalogic PS6110 Controller failing to restart

Hi,

We have two SAN members in a group which I have recently upgraded the firmware.  SAN01 went through fine but SAN02 hit an issue saying it wasn't compatible with the 64 bit version when I previously updated using 64 bit firmware. 
The restart would take place and the status would show "in progress" but the progress bar would stick at 0%.  The only way to recover from this would be to power down the unit and back on. 

The status for the controllers showed no issues and both control modules had the updated firmware V7.1.2 (R402088). 

I was curious to see if there was an issue with this unit still so I restarted the unit from the maintenance tab and exactly the same thing would happen.  Trying this on SAN01 would take a few minutes.

Does it seem likely that one of the controller units is faulty?  Is there a way to list any errors through a CLI command using telnet/SSH?

So long as we don't ever need to restart the controllers everything seems fine.  All the datastores are present and I can find no errors going through EqualLogic Group Manager.  We no longer have maintenance so I am no longer able to download and update the firmware.

Any help would be appreciated. 


My Equallogic Group IP pinging Unknown Internet Hosts

Hello,

I have an Equallogic Group consisting of older PS6000 members, and also running 5.02 firmware (I know...it's old).  Our network security team has seen that the Equallogic Group IP is sending out constant pings to certain IP addresses.  Some of these IP addresses are No DHCP Server related (169.254.1.151. 169.254.1.19, etc), but also we are seeing pings being sent out to two internet IP addresses, 20.20.20.2 and 20.20.20.3.  These pings are constant apparently, and we cannot find within the logs in the management console why they are occurring.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Equallogic V7.1.5 intermediate snapshots

Hello,

i examined how EQL snapshots work (AoW), and think to have understood that snapshots are child only to their base volume. Nevertheless, they just store the modifications in relation to the previous snapshot...

That's why i'm in doubt it would o.k. to delete intermediate snapshots?

The system let me do so, but now i receive [ID: 4.18] ...

Could someone please elaborate on this?

Recoverable Memory Error - Next steps?

Over the past couple years, we've seen a number of "Recoverable Memory Error" alerts from our out-of-support PS4000.

They were a couple months apart, and now seem to occur every month or so.  I'd like to be pro-active and replace what needs replaced.

Scheduled ASM Smart Copies cause VDS-VSS and iSCSI login errors on resultant snapshot volumes

I have ASM setup to complete scheduled Smart Copies on a daily basis.  When completing the the scheduled Smart Copy I am often receiving error messages through email notifications about either VDS-VSS or iSCSI logon errors related to the resultant volume.

VDS-VSS access is configured correctly with the CHAP password/username under PS Group Access.  Running ASM/WE 4.8.0.7868

I also sometimes show "Broken" smart copies of unknown origin in ASM.  The Smart Copies do complete though, so this is more of a matter of annoyance and the fact my phone is constantly getting false alerts to the point I want to turn off "error" level notifications.
