i examined how EQL snapshots work (AoW), and think to have understood that snapshots are child only to their base volume. Nevertheless, they just store the modifications in relation to the previous snapshot...
That's why i'm in doubt it would o.k. to delete intermediate snapshots?
The system let me do so, but now i receive [ID: 4.18] ...
Could someone please elaborate on this?

Equalogic: grpparams syslog-server-list not accepting port
I'm trying to add a syslog server target with a custom port. It won't accept the port either via the GUI or the CLI.
I type grpparams syslog-server-list x.x.x.x:yyy
It says "% Error - Invalid IP address"
both GUI and CLI accept IP with no port.
Is this a bug?

PS6100E - Which drives are supported?
Hi,
Have purchased a second hand PS6100E off a well known Internet Auction site which came as just the casing without any drives.
Appreciate that the EqualLogic are locked to certain hard drives and firmware and have been slowly building up a set of Constellation 1TB ST1000NM0001 with the PN04 firmware. Can anyone please confirm what other drives and firmware are suitable for this setup please.

VSM - Scripting?
Hi
After a successful SRM failover and failback process, I find my VSM schedules need recreating - actually the VSM schedules are there, but their association with their corresponding datastores has disappeared, presumably because the act of failing back has technically created new vSphere datastores with different GUIDs etc.
It would be very useful if I could script the (re)creation of the VSM replication\snapshot schedules rather than having to click through the still-painful vSphere web client. We regularly test our DR procedures including full test of the SRM plan, which means I need to do this several times a year.
Is there such a facility at the moment, if not can I file a feature request?
Does anybody else have the same issue?
Any suggestions etc.?

Linux multipath.conf (Multipathd)
We had an EqualLogic controller fail-over at the weekend for some reason (fw 8.13) which resulted in some of our virtual machines getting paused (I have raised a case on techdirect about the array itself).
We use ovirt / kvm and someone at redhat has helpfully suggested that we make the following adjustments to multipathd config ( I am aware there is no support agreement for this):
You can set the timeout in multipath.conf.
If you want to allow 60 seconds gracetime in such case, you can configure:
no_path_retry 12
This will continue to monitor the paths 12 times, each 5 seconds
(assuming polling_interval=5). If some path recover during this time, the io
can complete and the vm will not be paused.
Can anyone see any major issues with these suggestions ?
The majority of our guest disks are set to timeout after 60 seconds internally within the vms themselves.

Change IP address of Equallogic VSM through CLI
I need to change the IP address of my Equallogic VSM VM. When I installed it, I chose DHCP. But where it resides now there is no DHCP server available so I need to change it to a static IP. Is there a way to do this through the CLI? If not, how can it be done.

Quick question about Deleting a Member on a Equallogic storage array
When you choose Delete Member on a Equallogic storage array, it will move data and reset to factory default... but does it shut down the member or it will stay on? I want to reconfigure the member remotely so I was thinking to plug a serial cable on it... but I need to be sure it won't shut down after the reset is done.
Any one know the answer?

Equallogic VSS on Windows Server OS
I'm using backup exec vss in conjunction with the equal logic hit kit and vss to take snapshots. symantec has told me that if i don't explicitly say to use the hardware vss option, backups will only use the wndows vss by default. Is there a way to set windows server to use hardware vss by default if available instead of the windows vss? That is the only way apparently i can use automatic vss option in symantec to use hardware vss and failover to windows vss if the hit kit fails to take a snapshot.

VSM - Multiple vCenters
Where we have a separate management cluster and a resource cluster (each with its own vCenter), how do we deploy VSM? It looks like you can't you register one VSM to two vcenters, so do we deploy two VSM's? There is only one shared EQL Group, so will both |VSMs be able to talk to the same EQL Group, and see the same VVOL containers, like they do currently with standard datastores?

I've deleted a bunch of volumes from compellent that we no longer needed, but the free disk space hasn't changed yet.
how long does it take for compellent to update/reclaim free space? is there any way to speed up the process to show newly freed space?

Question about a Group with incorrect Default Gateway
Good morning,
My storage group (pair PS6210X) are unable to integrate with our AD (windows 2012 R2). I realized that my predecessor set these guys up with an old gateway ip address. Will changing this address affect my group that is currently running in production? I access it's grp page with the management ip address on XX.XX.216.40/24 with a gateway of XX.XX.216.1/24. It should be XX.XX.216.4/24. I feel like it would be fine to change but I am a little hesitant as I don't want a Resume Generating Event....lol
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Group manager reports 525GB in use
Windows Disk managment and Failover cluster manager both report 349GB in use.
Why the difference and where/how to I free up those 175GB?

VSM 4.6 vCenter 6 VCSA SOAPFaultException
Attempting to install Dell VSM-4.6.0-20160707.122300-139 virtual appliance to vCenter v6u2 (3634794). The OVA installs without error and the VSM appears in the vCenter Web Client, but attempting to access presents a "SOAPFaultException".
